Gateway Real Estate has its roots with Crescent Realty. Attracting many of the area"s top agents, Crescent grew steadily and opened a branch office in Puyallup in the mid 1970"s.

This office was an immediate success and soon eclipsed even the production of the main branch. Residential resale and land were the bulk of the business. With a strong move into condominium development, land subdivisions and new home sales in the 1980"s, the Puyallup branch of Crescent Realty became a marketing powerhouse. After relocating to a 13,000+ sq ft office building and growing to 50+ agents, this office became the undisputed leader in sales for Pierce County.

In 1994 this single office closed 1102 transactions and was nationally ranked among the top 250 companies in "Real Trends" magazine. The success of the Puyallup Crescent group carried over into 1995, which would prove to be their most eventful year. The direction of focus of the Crescent corporate office had changed to new ventures in Lakewood and Lacey, but new challenges needed to be met in Puyallup.

Believing that a renewed commitment of resources to the Puyallup marketplace was needed, a group of the top agents met with Crescent ownership. On December 29, 1995, five agents, with a combined total of over 50 years in this office, purchased the branch. Sharing a vision that they were at the threshold of even greater achievements, they named the new company Gateway. Gateway Real Estate quickly established its quality image under the careful early guidance of new owners Bill Riley, Jeff Mahan, Tim and Valerie Stephens, and Tom Folk. Workspaces and marketing tools were, and continue to be, upgraded to keep Gateway second to none.
